VE Day at Chapel and Friary Walk

Celebrate VE Day in Style at Chapel Walk and Friary Walk

Step back in time and join us for a truly special day of celebration as Chapel Walk and Friary Walk come alive with the spirit of VE Day on Thursday 8th May.

We’re marking this important moment in history with a nostalgic tribute to 1945 – a day to remember, reflect, and celebrate. Whether you’re a history buff, a lover of vintage tunes, or simply looking for a wholesome community event, there’s something for everyone.

Bringing the sounds of the wartime era to life, a talented live singer will be performing timeless classics from the likes of Vera Lynn and other wartime favourites. Expect to hear the sweet, stirring sounds of “We’ll Meet Again” and “The White Cliffs of Dover” echoing through the walkways. It’s the perfect backdrop to soak in the atmosphere and maybe even have a little dance!

Take a walk down memory lane with a unique display of letters and poems from the VE Day era. These fascinating snippets from local archives offer a real sense of what life was like in the city during and after the war – stories of resilience, joy, and community spirit.

To complete the celebrations, the space will be adorned with Union Jack bunting, and everything from traditional British treats to themed decorations will help set the scene. And as an added bonus, Coffee Dough will be offering a drink and a cake for just £5!
